Chairwoman Velázquez on White House Infrastructure Meeting

Statement

Date: April 30, 2019
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Infrastructure

House Small Business Committee Chairwoman Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) has released the following statement after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer met today with President Trump to discuss infrastructure reform:
"I am heartened that at today's White House meeting, Democratic leaders urged President Trump to come to the table and commit robust federal dollars towards rebuilding our nation's crumbling roads and bridges. I was especially pleased to hear that in the meeting, harnessing women-, veteran-, and minority-owned businesses to do this work was emphasized.
"Our Committee has now held multiple hearings on the importance of an infrastructure bill that promotes opportunities on Main Street. America's small businesses are responsible for creating two out of three new private sector jobs and make up over 99 percent of all businesses-- meaning they have a lot at stake in this conversation and deserve a seat at the table.
"Today's meeting is a positive step that should encourage lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to roll up our sleeves and get to work by passing meaningful 21st century infrastructure reform, all while ensuring we are helping our small businesses do what they do best--create new jobs and fuel our economy."
